“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
James 1:2–3 (NIV)
I haven’t written in a long time, and to be honest, I guess what some would call, I’ve been a little distracted, which is a part of life. And I’m not going to beat myself up over it. It is what it is.
So, I’m downtown in the city of Toronto, handling my business, drawing near to God in the way that I know how—not with lip service, but with a posture of heart.
You know, sometimes we can put ourselves first and feel like we’re doing the best thing. And sometimes we can feel like it’s our season to relax when it might not be. But one of the things I’m learning to do in this season is not beat myself up, to be honest, because I’m the one living this life. I’m the one feeling what I feel.
I got up this morning to attend some appointments, and I’ve been pushed back and forth, told one thing from one office and another thing from another. In the midst of it, normally I would get discouraged and let the frustration set in. But I just keep speaking over myself, “Regardless of what happens today, today is a good day.”
I think oftentimes, when we think about a good day, we think about it being everything that we want it to be. But where’s the joy in that? Where is the joy in that?
Despite the disappointments and how far I have to walk in shoes that are not prepared for this journey, I’m just going to continue telling myself that today is a good day. Because I have life, I have legs, I have eyesight, it’s a high of 30 degrees in my city, and I have the best gifts God could ever give me: my children walking beside me.
So even if I get to this building and they tell me something that is totally opposite of what the lady at the last building told me, I’m still going to decree and declare over this day that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. The steps of a righteous man are ordered. Today, I am in alignment with God’s Word over my life.
I’m healing at the pace that God has called me to, but also at the pace that I feel comfortable with. And I’m okay with walking to the other side, even if what I expect isn’t there.
Because I have breath in my lungs, I have joy in my heart, and I know it’s only because of Jesus.
